PER + DONATE

By Arthur da Távola*

I learned the other day, to forgive
is a portmanteau of "per" to "donate".
Giving is more than giving.
Giving is a total surrender to the other.
The prefix "per", which has several meanings,
indicates movement "towards"
or "toward"
or "through" or "."

Etymologically speaking,
therefore forgive,
means to give the other the possibility
he can love, can give itself.
Not only is the forgiver that
"donates through the other."

Forgiveness implies open possibilities
love for those who have been forgiven,
through the donation offered
by whom it was made worse.

Forgiveness is the only way to facilitate
another salvation itself.

To forgive is to give love,
is to allow the person object
forgiveness can (also) return
a love which, until then, only denied "...
