Gospel Of The Day - 08.03.2013

                                                                Antoni BigCuore *

Jesus talked with the Sadducees and at one point a Master of Law, (listening to the conversation) asked him a question: "Which is the first commandment of all?" Jesus answered: "The FIRST commandment is this: 'Hear oh Israel! The Lord our God is ONE LORD! And love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second command is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment more important than these two. " (Mark, 12, 28-31). (My italics).

BigCuore´s Reflection: Jesus in this text makes clear what the true religion is the religion of love!. And which model he proposes that his disciples follow? You put God first in everything we do. It is to love God above all other things in the world!. And to crown with fragrant flowers, the head of the Christians, he says: "... and your neighbor as yourself."

There are no commandments greater than these two mentioned by the Master Jesus. The religion itself does not save anyone!. What saves it is the shared faith, namely faith translated into concrete acts of love to his brother, especially those most in need. One of the things that draws the most attention from us Christians, reading the Gospels, is the feeling of COMPASSION that Jesus had for the weak and oppressed Jewish society in which he lived.

Another detail of the text, contrary to fundamentalist Christians who think Jesus speaks in one God, however, meant that he understood God as a community of Trinitarian love. God Creator Father, God the Son, Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word and Spirit Sanctifier. In the Gospel of John, the Master makes clear when he says in John 14, twenty-three times the word Father And also speaks in the Spirit of Truth, the Paraclete that He would send later at Pentecost, soon after his ascension into heaven . Therefore, one can not read the word of God, without taking into account the socio-cultural context of the time it was written. The call prayerful reading of the WORD, "lectio divina".

My brother and my sister, we pray to God before we begin to reflect on his word, that he will send his Holy Spirit to enlighten us to understand what his words really meant at the time. Ask insight to the Divine Spirit that He will instruct us in the true path.

God bless you always and abundantly! Health, peace, prosperity, harmony and joy in their hearts! Otimo weekend! Shalom!
