1st Reading - Book Nehemiah, 8, 2-4 th. ,5-6-8-102nd Reading - Psalm 19 (18)3rd. Reading - Gospel S.Lucas, 1, 1-4; 4.14 to 21The narrative below, the Book of Ezra and Nehemiah, occurs more or less in the years 538 and 400 BC, the return from exile in Babylon, where the Jews were persecuted and many killed by bloodthirsty King Nebuchadnezzar. Reading the Book of Nehemiah:

In those days, the second priest Ezra presented the Law before the assembly of men, women and all who were able to understand. It was the first day of the seventh month.3Assim, which is in the square in front of the door of the Waters, Ezra did reading the book, from early morning until midday, in the presence of men, women and all who were able to understand. And all the people listened attentively to the reading of the book of the Law4aEsdras the scribe stood on a wooden platform, erected for this purpose.

5Estando a higher place, he opened the book in the sight of all the people. And when he opened it, all the people stood.6Esdras blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, raising his hands, "Amen! Amen! "

Then they bowed down and prostrated themselves before the Lord, with his face to the earth. 8E clearly and distinctly read the book of God's Law and explained its meaning, so that they could understand the reading.9The governor Nehemiah and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said to all: "This day is holy to the Lord your God! Do not stay sad or weep "because all the people wept on hearing the words of the Law10E Nehemiah told them: "Go to your homes and eat fatty meats, take sweet drinks and divide those with nothing prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not just sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. "(1)
Psalm 19 (18) (synopsis)

- Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life!- Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life!- The law of the Lord God is perfect, / comfort for the soul! / The testimony of the Lord is faithful, / wisdom of the humble.- The statutes of the Lord are accurate / joy to the heart. / The commandment of the Lord is shining, / eye is a light.- It is pure fear of the Lord, / unchanging forever. / The judgments of the Lord are right / fair and equally.- What pleases you the song of my lips / and the voice of my soul ;/ it reaches you, O Lord, / Rock and my Redeemer!
GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE, 1, 1-14, 4, 14-211Muitas people have tried to write the story of the events that took place between us, we were 2How transmitted by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word.3Assim being, after making a careful study of everything that happened from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly for you, most excellent Teófilo.4Deste way, you can verify the solidity of the teachings you have received.

At that time, 4.14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and his fame spread throughout the neighborhood.15Ele taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.16E came to Nazareth, where he had created. As his custom, went into the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up for to read.

17Deram him the book of the prophet Isaiah. Opening the book, Jesus found the passage where it was written: 18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year 19e of the Lord's favor. "

20Depois closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. All who were in the synagogue were fixed on him eyes.21And he began to say to them: "Today is fulfilled this scripture you have just heard."

A. BIGCUORE´s REFLECTION: The first reading, as well as all the texts, remind us of the importance of the Word of God.At first, the people who returned from exile in Babylon in the time of King Nabucodonobor where Jerusalem was totally destroyed and looted. (538 and 400 B.C.)That Nehemiah was copediro King, was elected Governor and Ezra the priest, the characters in this first reading, where the people vibrates to be proclaimed a pedestal reading of the Law (Pentateuch or Torah book of the Jewish people).9The governor Nehemiah and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said to all: "This day is holy to the Lord your God! Do not stay sad or weep "because all the people wept on hearing the words of the LawNote the emotion that the word of God caused the Jewish people! Every assembly vibrated and wept for joy when he heard the words of the Law

In the Gospel Jesus, the Word of God, the word incarnate as the Evangelist John says, taught in the synagogue and dropped the text of the Prophet Isaiah 61, where the prophet was saying exactly what the Messiah would assume its mission from that reading. Both Jesus himself says at the end of the reading:"All who were in the synagogue were fixed on him eyes.21And he began to say to them: "Today is fulfilled this scripture you have just heard."

A question arises: how today (2013), is that we Christians, we assume and live the Word of God with that same ENTHUSIASM who did prune the Jew as the first reading? We seek to translate into concrete action the word of God in our daily lives? For example, visited the sick, or even a family member who is in this state? We help the social center of our community with the tithe, medicine, clothing in good condition that they no longer use? In daily life, we are educated on the bus, subway or train? We yield our place to someone elderly or pregnant? We speak sweet words to others who can demonstrate our faith as Christians? NEGATIVE or reinforce those conversations that build anything?

Remember what Nehemiah said:10E Nehemiah told them: "Go to your homes and eat fatty meats, take sweet drinks and divide those with nothing prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not just sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. "The Word of God is quick, efficient, always produces good fruit. Where ever it is sown who sowed back without producing fruit!"The law of the Lord is perfect, comfort for the soul!JESUS is our model to be followed. If we are to be truly Disciples of the Master, we must forego many things, including and especially our personal vanity and lust for power!
